How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use Your Nomad PRO Insulin Case

Like the original Nomad, the Nomad PRO is really straightforward to use. Just follow these steps:

  1. Prepare the Biogel Cooling Pack: Shake the Biogel cooling pack four or five times to ensure the gel is evenly distributed.
  2. Freeze the Cooling Pack: Place the Biogel cooling pack in the freezer for 6–8 hours. Don’t worry if it stays frozen for longer—it’s completely fine!
  3. Activate the Cooling Pack: Submerge the frozen Biogel cooling pack in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes. This removes the frost layer and prevents the risk of freezing your medicine. No lukewarm water available? Simply leave it at room temperature for 15–20 minutes instead. The warm water method is more efficient, especially in different seasonal conditions.
  4. Dry and Load your Medication: Towel-dry the Biogel cooling pack and place it into the insulated cooling case along with your insulin or medication.
  5. Secure the Lid: Firmly close the lid. Job done!
  6. Monitor the Temperature: Check the touch-screen temperature display any time you need to confirm your medications are stored within the safe range (shown in both °C and °F).

Ideal for insulin, Ozempic or other medications

The Nomad PRO is the perfect travel cooling case for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who need to keep their injections cool and safe on the go.

Whether you use insulin or type 2 diabetes injections such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, Trulicity, or others, this compact cooler keeps them refrigerated for days — even on long journeys.

Designed for everyday reliability and medical-grade performance, the Nomad PRO takes the stress out of travelling with diabetes — from short trips and flights to daily commutes.

Perfect for GLP-1 medications – developed for the new generation of treatments

Whether you use Wegovy, Zepbound, Semaglutide, or Tirzepatide, the Nomad Pro Cooling Case is perfectly designed for today’s new generation of GLP-1 medications.

For anyone travelling with GLP-1 treatments, the Nomad Pro offers more than practicality — it ensures your medication stays effective, stable, and ready to use, wherever life takes you.

Compatible with over 30 medications

Beyond insulin and GLP-1 injections, the Nomad PRO is designed to safely store and transport over 30 types of refrigerated medicines.

From growth hormones (HGH, Genotropin, Norditropin) and rheumatoid arthritis treatments (Humira, Enbrel) to IVF and fertility injectionsmigraine medications (Aimovig, Emgality, Ajovy), and asthma injectables, our cooling case provides consistent, medical-grade cooling for a wide range of biologics and injectables.

➡️ To check how many pens, vials, or syringes your specific medication will fit, see the product images or the “Size & Fit” section above.

Suitable only for refrigerated medications

The Nomad PRO is built with high-performance cooling technology that maintains a steady fridge-like temperature between 2°C and 8°C. It’s perfectly suited for unopened insulin and other medicines that must stay refrigerated while travelling.

However, some treatments don’t need such low temperatures once they’re in use. If your medication only requires heat protection rather than full cooling — for instance, daily insulin pens or other room-temperature injections — you might prefer one of our insulated travel options, such as the Chiller Cooling Pouches or the Rambler Insulin Pen Case.

Both keep your medication comfortably cool without the extra refrigeration power of the Nomad PRO!

New colors – scratch-resistant surface

The Nomad PRO now comes in a range of vibrant, eye-catching colours, paired with a new scratch-resistant coating for extra durability.

While no surface is ever completely scratch-proof, this upgraded finish — together with the protective insulated carry bag — keeps your travel cooling case looking smart and polished, journey after journey.

FAQs

How Long Does The Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case Keep Insulin Refrigerated?

The Medium Nomad PRO keeps insulin at fridge temperature (2–8 °C) for up to 30 hours at 30 °C, and up to 26 hours at 40 °C.

The Large Nomad PRO keeps going a little longer — up to 32 hours at 30°C, and up to 28 hours at 40°C.

Both sizes also keep medications cool below 26°C for up to 46–52 hours, making them reliable for multi-day trips as well.

Is The Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case Reliable In Hot Weather?

Yes — the Nomad PRO is specifically designed to perform in demanding conditions. Even at 40°C, the Large Nomad PRO keeps your insulin safely refrigerated for up to 28 hours.

As with any cooling case, avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in a hot parked vehicle to get the best performance.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Nomad PRO?

It depends on the size and your insulin pen brand.

The Medium Nomad PRO holds up to 3 pens of the most common insulin brands available in Germany (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix) and up to 2 pens in wider formats (Tresiba, Humalog, Levemir, Fiasp, Basaglar).

The Large Nomad PRO holds up to 7 pens in standard formats and up to 6 pens in wider formats.

Always check the fit of your pen using the size guide in the product images, as dimensions can vary between brands.

🔍 Still not sure? Contact our support team for personalised advice.

Is The Nomad PRO Compatible With Other Medications?

Yes! The Nomad PRO is compatible with a wide range of biologics and autoimmune medications available in Germany, including Enbrel, Actemra, Humira, Dupixent, and many more.

Storage capacity varies by pen or syringe format.

🔍 Check the compatibility guide in the product images or contact our support team for personalised advice.

Medium Or Large — Which Cooling Case Is Right For Me?

The main difference is storage capacity and internal dimensions.

The Medium Nomad PRO (24 cm tall, 6.5 cm diameter) is more compact and ideal for daily use with 1–3 injection pens.

The Large Nomad PRO (26.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm diameter) offers significantly more internal space — great for longer trips or if you carry multiple medications. It also keeps things cool for slightly longer.

What Is The Difference Between The Nomad PRO And The Standard Nomad Cooling Case?

The Nomad PRO is the upgraded version of our Nomad Insulin Cooling Case, with three key improvements:

  • a built-in digital touchscreen display showing the internal temperature in real time;
  • a scratch-resistant finish in bold new colours;
  • and an insulated carry bag included in the box.

The core cooling technology, Biogel system and medication compatibility are identical across both models.

How Does The Temperature Display Work?

The Nomad PRO features an integrated digital touchscreen display in the lid that shows the real-time internal temperature — no need to open the case to check.

On the Medium Nomad PRO, it runs on long-lasting button-cell batteries with an estimated lifespan of up to 2 years (approximately 30,000 display activations). When the battery eventually runs low, you can replace it yourself by rotating the glass display where indicated.

On the Large Nomad PRO, the lid is rechargeable via USB — cable and charger included in the box.

Does This Cooling Case Need To Be Plugged In Or Charged?

No — the Nomad PRO keeps your medication cool through entirely passive cooling. No electricity, no USB connection, no charging required.

It works solely through the included Biogel Cold Pack. The temperature display lid runs on a small replaceable button-cell battery — nothing needs to be plugged in.

This makes the Nomad PRO completely self-sufficient — ideal for flights, hikes or any situation where a power outlet is not available.

What Is The Carry Bag For? Do I Need To Use It?

The carry bag is a bonus accessory included with the cooling case — it is not part of the cooling system, so using it is entirely optional.

That said, it is insulated and adds an extra layer of thermal protection on top of the Nomad PRO's already excellent standalone performance. It has also been designed for everyday convenience:

  • it protects your cooling case from scratches and wear;
  • it comes with an adjustable shoulder strap for comfortable carrying;
  • and it features handy storage pockets for spare needles, swabs and other small medical accessories.
Is The Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case Cabin-Approved For Air Travel?

Yes! Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Nomad PRO is cabin-approved and can be carried in your hand luggage — whether you're flying within Germany, across the EU or internationally.

💡 Always carry your medication inside the cooling case to demonstrate its medical purpose — this makes security checks much smoother.

Can I Use The Nomad PRO For Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

It depends on the specific storage instructions for your insulin or medication.

The Nomad PRO is designed to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8 °C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.

💡 To protect your open, in-use insulin pen from heat, check out the Rambler, the Rambler PRO or the Chiller Cool Pouches instead.

What Is Included In The Box With The Nomad PRO?

Every Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case comes with everything you need, right out of the box:

  • the insulated medical cooling case itself;
  • the touchscreen temperature display lid with pre-installed batteries;
  • one reusable Biogel Cold Pack (additional Cold Packs available here);
  • and an insulated carry bag with thermal inner lining.

Everything is ready to use from the moment it arrives — no additional accessories required.
