How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use Your Nomad PRO Insulin Case

Like the original Nomad, the Nomad PRO is really straightforward to use. Just follow these steps:

Prepare the Biogel Cooling Pack: Shake the Biogel cooling pack four or five times to ensure the gel is evenly distributed.
Freeze the Cooling Pack: Place the Biogel cooling pack in the freezer for 6–8 hours. Don’t worry if it stays frozen for longer—it’s completely fine!
Activate the Cooling Pack: Submerge the frozen Biogel cooling pack in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes. This removes the frost layer and prevents the risk of freezing your medicine. No lukewarm water available? Simply leave it at room temperature for 15–20 minutes instead. The warm water method is more efficient, especially in different seasonal conditions.
Dry and Load your Medication: Towel-dry the Biogel cooling pack and place it into the insulated cooling case along with your insulin or medication.
Secure the Lid: Firmly close the lid. Job done!
Monitor the Temperature: Check the touch-screen temperature display any time you need to confirm your medications are stored within the safe range (shown in both °C and °F).

What Is The Difference Between The Nomad PRO And The Standard Nomad Cooling Case?

The Nomad PRO is the upgraded version of our Nomad Insulin Cooling Case, with three key improvements:

a built-in digital touchscreen display showing the internal temperature in real time;
a scratch-resistant finish in bold new colours;
and an insulated carry bag included in the box.

The core cooling technology, Biogel system and medication compatibility are identical across both models.

How Does The Temperature Display Work?

The Nomad PRO features an integrated digital touchscreen display in the lid that shows the real-time internal temperature — no need to open the case to check.

On the Medium Nomad PRO, it runs on long-lasting button-cell batteries with an estimated lifespan of up to 2 years (approximately 30,000 display activations). When the battery eventually runs low, you can replace it yourself by rotating the glass display where indicated.

On the Large Nomad PRO, the lid is rechargeable via USB — cable and charger included in the box.

Does This Cooling Case Need To Be Plugged In Or Charged?

No — the Nomad PRO keeps your medication cool through entirely passive cooling. No electricity, no USB connection, no charging required.

It works solely through the included Biogel Cold Pack. The temperature display lid runs on a small replaceable button-cell battery — nothing needs to be plugged in.

This makes the Nomad PRO completely self-sufficient — ideal for flights, hikes or any situation where a power outlet is not available.

What Is The Carry Bag For? Do I Need To Use It?

The carry bag is a bonus accessory included with the cooling case — it is not part of the cooling system, so using it is entirely optional.

That said, it is insulated and adds an extra layer of thermal protection on top of the Nomad PRO's already excellent standalone performance. It has also been designed for everyday convenience:

it protects your cooling case from scratches and wear;
it comes with an adjustable shoulder strap for comfortable carrying;
and it features handy storage pockets for spare needles, swabs and other small medical accessories.

Is The Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case Cabin-Approved For Air Travel?

Yes! Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Nomad PRO is cabin-approved and can be carried in your hand luggage — whether you're flying within Germany, across the EU or internationally.

Can I Use The Nomad PRO For Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

It depends on the specific storage instructions for your insulin or medication.

The Nomad PRO is designed to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8 °C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.
