      Cooling Duration & Temperature

Cooling Efficiency – Time & Temperature

Performance in Combined Mode (USB + Biogel Cold Pack)

🌡️ At 30 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 52 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 72 hours.

🌡️ At 35 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 50 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 70 hours.

🌡️ At 40 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 48 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 68 hours.

Performance in Biogel Cold Pack Mode (No USB)

🌡️ At 30 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 33 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 52 hours.

🌡️ At 35 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 30 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 48 hours.

🌡️ At 40 °C: Keeps insulin and medications refrigerated between 2–8 °C for 28 hours, and cool below 26 °C for 46 hours.

      Performance in USB Mode Only

The USB lid alone cannot maintain refrigerated temperatures for insulin and medications. It is however well suited for carrying open and in-use medicines cool and protected from heat, keeping them safely at room temperature below 26 °C.

🌡️ At 30 °C: The USB lid lowers the internal temperature by up to 15 °C compared to the ambient temperature, maintaining interior temperatures between 8–26 °C for as long as it remains connected to a power source.

      How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use the Explorer Medical Travel Cooler

To make the best use of the Explorer Insulin Cooler, it's important to understand its three
      alternative cooling solutions
      .

This medical travel cooler can keep your insulin and medications cool using USB power, freeze packs, or a combination of both. Here's a quick guide to help you maximize its performance across all 3 cooling methods:

      1. Dual Cooling: Cold Pack + USB Medical Cooler

For optimal cooling and extended duration, use both the Biogel Freeze Pack and the USB-powered
lid together. This combination keeps your insulin and medications cool for up to 3 days, even in the most intense summer heat.

      1. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel cold pack up and down four or five times.

      2. Then, simply place your Biogel cold pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. (there is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.)

      3. Once you need to use it, submerge the cold pack in luke-warm tap water for 120-180 seconds before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use; however, the warm tap water method is more efficient throughout the year and at various seasonal temperatures. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of this cooling component, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.

      4. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside medical cooler, along with the cold pack.

      5. Seal the cooler with the USB lid and connect it to any USB power source. It's that simple!

      2. Cold Pack Travel Cooler (No USB Lid)

When you're off the grid or without access to power, the Explorer Insulin Cooler works perfectly as a simple cooling case. It's ideal for flights, remote travel, or when you want to travel light without the need for charging.

      1. Swap out the USB lid for the regular lid.

      2. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel cold pack up and down four or five times.

      3. Then, simply place your Biogel cold pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. There is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.

      5. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside the medical travel cooler, along with the cold pack.

      6. Close the regular lid securely, and you're all set!

      3. USB Insulin Cooler (No Cold Pack)

The USB lid on its own is perfect for keeping medications cool when refrigeration isn't necessary. This mode maintains room temperatures below 26°C, ensuring that your in-use insulin or medications are protected from heat.

In environments with an ambient temperature of 30°C, the USB-powered cooler can reduce the internal temperature by up to 15°C below the external environment. This means the cooler can maintain a temperature range of 8-26°C as long as it's connected to a power source.

It’s the perfect medical travel cooler for any medication that requires refrigeration or temperature control while on the go, including Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, Trulicity, Saxenda, Humira, Enbrel, growth hormones, or any other temperature-sensitive injections.

For information on how many of your injector pens or syringes the Explorer Medical Cooler can accommodate, check out the "Size & Fit" section above.

ALWAYS BY YOUR SIDE—THE INSULIN COOLER THAT TRAVELS WITH YOU!

The USB-powered lid of the Explorer Medical Travel Cooler is compatible with any USB power source, whether it's your car's cigarette lighter, a portable power bank, a household outlet, or even a solar panel while camping. Your medications stay cool no matter where your adventure takes you!

And when power isn't available, simply switch to the freeze pack mode for reliable cooling. This makes the Explorer the perfect companion for traveling with insulin and other medications, even in the most remote locations.

APPROVED FOR AIR TRAVEL: FLY WITH YOUR MEDS!

We understand the challenges of flying with insulin and temperature-sensitive injections. That’s why the Explorer Insulin Cooler is officially approved for air travel, ensuring smooth travel through airport security. Plus, it comes with a handy strap for easy, comfortable carrying.

To pass through airport security checkpoints with your medical travel cooler:

      1. The Biogel needs to be frozen.
      2. It should be accompanied by your medication, proving to the security agents that the cooler is used for medical purposes.

If any of these 2 conditions are not met, please put your cooler in your checked luggage to avoid any issues.

SUITABLE FOR REFRIGERATED AND ROOM-TEMPERATURE MEDICATION

When using the freeze pack or dual cooling modes, the Explorer Insulin Cooler keeps your medication refrigerated at a steady temperature between 2-8°C.

However, if you're carrying open insulin or other medications that don't need to or shouldn’t be re-refrigerated after opening, the USB mode is your best option. It protects your meds from heat, maintaining a safe room temperature below 26°C for as long as it's connected to power, making it ideal for continuous use when ambient temperatures are 30°C or lower.

      FAQs

How Does The Explorer Insulin Cooler's 3-In-1 Cooling System Work?

The Explorer Insulin Cooler is unlike any other medical travel cooler — it offers three completely independent cooling modes, giving you more flexibility than any other product in our range.

In Biogel-only mode, you use the standard lid with the included Biogel Cold Pack for passive cooling with no power needed — ideal for flights, off-grid adventures or any situation where cables are impractical.

In USB-only mode, connect the electric lid to any USB power source to keep open, in-use medications cool at room temperature below 26 °C.

In combined mode, use both the electric lid and the Biogel Cold Pack together for maximum cooling performance — the best choice for long trips, extreme heat or multi-day travel.

Switching between modes takes just seconds — simply swap the lid and add or remove the Biogel Cold Pack as needed.

How Long Does The Explorer Insulin Cooler Keep Medications Cold?

Cooling performance varies by mode and ambient temperature.

In combined mode (USB + Biogel), the Explorer Insulin Cooler keeps medications at fridge temperature (2–8 °C) for up to 48–52 hours, and cool below 26 °C for up to 68–72 hours.

In Biogel-only mode, it keeps medications refrigerated for up to 28–33 hours, and cool below 26 °C for up to 46–52 hours.

In USB-only mode, the insulin cooler keeps medications cool below 26 °C (not fully refrigerated) for as long as it remains connected, at ambient temperatures up to 35 °C.

Can I Use The Explorer Insulin Cooler In USB-Only Mode For Full Refrigeration?

No — in USB-only mode, the Explorer works as a heat protection cooler rather than a full refrigerator. It keeps the internal temperature roughly 15 °C cooler than the outside environment — suitable for open, in-use medications that need to stay cool but should not be re-refrigerated.

For full refrigeration, always use the Explorer Insulin Cooler with the Biogel Cold Pack, either in Biogel-only or combined mode.

💡 If you need USB-powered refrigeration without a Biogel Cold Pack, check out the Voyager, the Voyager Mini, the Pioneer or the Pioneer PRO.

Can I Use The Explorer For Carrying Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

Yes — but only in USB-only mode. Without the Biogel Cold Pack, the Explorer keeps medications cool at room temperature below 26 °C — suitable for open, in-use insulin.

In Biogel or combined mode, the insulin cooler maintains full fridge temperatures (2–8 °C), which may be too cold for some types of insulin or medication once opened. Always check your specific medication's storage instructions.

💡 For purpose-built heat protection coolers, check out the Rambler, the Rambler PRO or the Chiller Cool Pouches instead.

How Many Insulin Pens And Vials Fit In The Explorer?

The Explorer is one of the largest capacity insulin coolers in the entire 4AllFamily range.

It holds up to 7 insulin pens in standard formats available in Germany (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix, Apidra, Actrapid, and others) and up to 6 pens in wider formats (Humalog, Tresiba, Levemir, Fiasp, Basaglar, Ryzodeg, and others). It also holds up to 28 Humulin vials or up to 8 NovoRapid vials — an excellent option for those who use vials rather than pens.

🔍 Check the full compatibility guide in the product images. Can't find your medication? Contact our support team for personalised advice.

Can I Use The Explorer For Ozempic, Mounjaro And Other GLP-1 Injections?

Yes! The Explorer is an excellent solution for transporting GLP-1 injections available in Germany.

It holds up to 5 Ozempic or Wegovy pens, up to 6 Saxenda pens, up to 7 Victoza pens and up to 3 Mounjaro or Trulicity pens — among many others.

🔍 Questions about your specific medication or pen format? Contact our support team for personalised advice.

My Medication Is Not On The Compatibility List. Can I Still Use The Explorer?

Most probably yes! Our compatibility guides cover the most commonly prescribed medications in Germany but are not exhaustive. Compatibility depends primarily on the physical dimensions of your injection device — whether your pen, syringe or vial fits within the refrigerated compartment (4.9 cm internal diameter, 20 cm usable internal length).

🔍 Check the dimensions in the product images or contact our support team — we'll confirm compatibility for you.

What Power Sources Are Compatible With The Explorer Insulin Cooler's USB Lid?

The Explorer's USB lid comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable and works with any standard USB power source — power banks, car chargers, wall adapters and portable solar panels.

💡 For long trips away from a power outlet, the 4AllFamily Pathfinder 20,000 mAh power bank is the ideal companion for the Explorer Insulin Cooler — for many hours of continuous cooling on the go.

What Is The Biogel Cold Pack And How Do I Use It?

The Explorer Insulin Cooler includes a Biogel Cold Pack that uses a non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 2 °C — meaning it cannot freeze your medication on contact.

To prepare it, shake it a few times, freeze for 6–8 hours, then submerge in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes before use to remove any surface frost. Dry it gently, then place it in the cooler alongside your medications.

💡 The Biogel Cold Pack is reusable indefinitely. Additional Cold Packs are available here for swap-and-go extended cooling.

Is The Explorer Really Safe For My Insulin & Medications?

Absolutely — safety is built in at multiple levels.

The Explorer Insulin Cooler is laboratory-tested to confirm its cooling performance across a range of ambient temperatures. The inner chamber is made from food-grade stainless steel 304, safe for direct contact with medication containers. The Biogel Cold Pack uses a non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 2 °C, so it physically cannot drop below the safe lower boundary of fridge temperature. In combined or Biogel mode, the insulin cooler maintains the same 2–8 °C range as a hospital or pharmacy fridge.

Is This Cooler Cabin-Approved For Air Travel?

Yes! Like all 4AllFamily medical coolers, the Explorer Insulin Cooler is cabin-approved and can be carried in your hand luggage — whether you're flying within Germany, across the EU or internationally.

💡 Always carry your medications inside the cooler at security checkpoints to demonstrate its medical purpose — this makes the process much smoother.

I Only Need To Carry 1–2 Insulin Pens. Do You Have A More Compact Insulin Cooler?

Yes — the Explorer is designed for those who need to carry multiple pens or vials. If you only carry 1–2 pens a day, a more compact option might suit you better.

💡 For refrigerated storage, the Medium Nomad Insulin Cooling Case is a slim passive cooler that works with the Biogel Cold Pack alone. The Voyager Mini adds USB electric cooling in an equally compact format for up to 3 pens.

💡 For heat protection only, the Chiller Cool Pouches, the Rambler or the Rambler PRO are purpose-built for that.

🔍 Not sure which insulin cooler is right for you? Contact our support team — we'd be happy to help!

Can I Replace The Biogel Cold Pack Or USB Lid Separately If I Lose One?

Yes — every component of the Explorer Insulin Cooler is available separately, so you never need to replace the whole cooler if one part is lost or damaged.

🔍 Replacement Biogel Cold Packs and USB lids are available on our accessories page. It's also worth keeping a spare Cold Pack in the freezer for longer trips — simply freeze one while the other is in use for continuous, uninterrupted cooling.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Explorer ?

Not happy with your Explorer ? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return. Have a look at our return policy page for the full details.
