    How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use The Nomad Cooling Cases

Using the Nomad Cooling Cases for keeping your insulin and medication cool while on the go is incredibly straightforward:

    1. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel cold pack up and down four or five times.

    2. Then, simply place your Biogel cold pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. (there is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.)

    3. Once you need to use it, submerge the cold pack in luke-warm tap water for 120-180 seconds before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use; however, the warm tap water method is more efficient throughout the year and at various seasonal temperatures. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of this cooling component, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.

    4. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside the cooling case, along with the frozen pack.

    5. Securely close the lid. It's that simple!

    FAQs

How Long Does The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case Keep Insulin Cold?

The Medium Nomad Insulin Cooling Case keeps insulin at fridge temperature (2–8 °C) for up to 30 hours at 30 °C, and up to 26 hours at 40 °C.

The Large Nomad keeps going a little longer — up to 33 hours at 30 °C.

Both sizes also keep medications cool below 26 °C for up to 48–52 hours, making them reliable for multi-day trips as well.

Is The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case Reliable In Hot Weather?

Yes — the Nomad is specifically designed to perform in demanding conditions. Even at 40 °C, the Large Nomad keeps your insulin safely refrigerated for up to 28 hours.

As with any cooling case, avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in a hot parked vehicle to get the best performance.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case?

It depends on the size and your insulin pen brand.

The Medium Nomad holds up to 3 pens of the most common insulin brands available in Germany (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Actrapid) and up to 2 pens in wider formats (Tresiba, Levemir, Humalog).

The Large Nomad holds up to 7 pens in standard formats and up to 6 pens in wider formats.

🔍 Check the full compatibility guide in the product images for your specific insulin pen. Can't find your brand? Contact our support team for personalised advice.

Can I Use The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case For Ozempic, Mounjaro And Other GLP-1 Injections?

Yes! The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case is fully compatible with GLP-1 injections available in Germany, including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Trulicity and Victoza.

Always check the fit of your pen using the size guide in the product images, as dimensions can vary between brands.

🔍 Still not sure? Contact our support team for personalised advice.

Is The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case Compatible With Other Refrigerated Medications?

Yes! The Nomad Cooling Case is compatible with a wide range of biologics and autoimmune medications available in Germany, including Humira, Dupixent (200 mg and 300 mg), Enbrel, Cosentyx, Kevzara, Benlysta, Nucala, Fasenra, and many more.

Storage capacity varies by pen or syringe format.

🔍 Check the compatibility guide in the product images or contact our support team for personalised advice.

Medium Or Large Cooling Case — Which Size Is Right For Me?

The main difference is storage capacity and internal dimensions.

The Medium Nomad Insulin Cooling Case (24 cm tall, 6.5 cm diameter) is more compact and ideal for daily use with 1–3 injection pens.

The Large Nomad (26.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm diameter) offers significantly more internal space — great for longer trips or if you carry multiple medications. It also keeps things cool for slightly longer.

What Is The Difference Between The Nomad And The Nomad PRO?

The Nomad PRO Insulin Cooling Case includes everything the Nomad offers, with one key upgrade: a built-in digital touchscreen display showing the internal temperature in real time — no need to open the case to check.

If knowing the exact temperature of your medication gives you peace of mind, the Nomad PRO is well worth it. If you're happy with the proven Biogel system and prefer a simpler, more affordable option, the standard Nomad is an excellent choice.

The Nomad PRO also comes with an insulated carry bag for extra protection.

Is The Biogel Cold Pack Safe For Medical Use?

Yes — the Biogel Cold Pack included with our insulin cooling cases uses a 100% non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 2 °C.

Unlike standard water-based ice packs that freeze at 0 °C and can damage your medication on contact, the Biogel physically cannot drop below that threshold — no risk of accidentally freezing your insulin or medications.

Our Biogel Cold Packs are reusable for unlimited cooling cycles.

Does The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case Need To Be Plugged In Or Charged?

No — the Nomad requires no electricity, no USB connection and no battery whatsoever.

It works entirely through passive cooling using the included Biogel Cold Pack, making it ideal for hikes, camping, beach days or long-haul flights where access to a power outlet isn't guaranteed.

💡 If you need a USB-powered medical cooler, check out our other products: the Voyager, the Voyager Mini, the Pioneer, the Pioneer PRO or the Explorer.

Does The Nomad Cooling Case Have A Temperature Display?

No — the Nomad does not include a built-in thermometer or temperature display.

💡 If real-time temperature monitoring matters to you, the Nomad PRO features a digital display built directly into the lid.

The Nomad is designed for simplicity — its Biogel technology keeps your medication at a safe fridge temperature without needing a screen to confirm it.

Is The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case Cabin-Approved For Air Travel?

Yes! Like all 4AllFamily's coolers, the Nomad is cabin-approved and can be carried in your hand luggage — whether you're flying within Germany, across the EU or internationally.

💡 Always carry your medication inside the cooling case to demonstrate its medical purpose — this makes security checks much smoother.

Can I Use The Nomad Insulin Cooling Case For Open, In-Use Insulin Pens Or Vials?

It depends on the specific storage instructions for your insulin or medication.

The Nomad is designed to maintain refrigerated temperatures (2–8 °C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept cool but not returned to the fridge after opening.

💡 To protect your open, in-use insulin pen from heat, check out the Rambler, the Rambler PRO or the Chiller Cool Pouches instead.

What If I Need To Keep My Medication Cold For More Than 33 Hours?

Simply pick up additional Biogel Cold Packs and swap them out once the first one warms up.

Put the used pack back in the freezer while the second one is in service, and you have continuous, uninterrupted refrigeration — perfect for longer trips or destinations without reliable freezer access.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Nomad ?

Not happy with your Nomad ? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return. Have a look at our return policy page for the full details.
